5/11/08 S-Works makes the call to arms

Just when you thought we were done. Just when you thought there was no more hope, there is actually, suddenly, nothing but hope.

Bob Robbins is an old friend of ours. In fact he is also an old competitor of ours. Not necessarily "old", more like from another life - back when we used to race on the east coast. I got a call a few weeks ago from Bob, asking if we'd be down for a meal. Bob was driving the S-Works transporter from Fontana to Infineon, so we all met up for pasta just south of SanFrancisco. Somewhere in all the catching up the subject turned to his asking me to help them with their young rider. Now you know me, if there's anything I couldn't hate more it's going to a racetrack to "Watch" others race. But still I said yes, because Bob and his wife Missy are like family to me. There was even talk that they might need me to take the kid around to show him some of Infineon's tricks in an open practice on Thursday. I haven't raced/ridden since last October so the first thing I did when I got home was hit the streets jogging, scratch pasta off the dinner menu, and head for the gym..

Things were going smoothly and on schedule until this past Thursday, when Bob called with some potential new ideas. He sounded concerned and I was honestly bummed for him. There are many angles to consider before you make any move, when you run a race effort at the level S-Works is at. I gave Bob whatever insight I had to offer, then headed back to the gym. This morning I saw the press release on Roadracingworld.com, which etches this new effort in stone.

To say we're excited is an understatement. I am not as prepared as I would like to be for an opportunity like this, but we will go into this charging like a bull none the less. Tracy is on the program, actively breaking my arss in half at the gym. The stuff she knows about the human body is pretty amazing. Also diet. Our success will be in her hands as much as it is in the hands of S-Sorks Triumph.
