- HOLESHOT TIPS - Line up last, and never directly behind anyone - doesn't matter if they're three rows up from you. Always find your path to the front, ahead of time. See everything, but focus on nothing. Tip of your pointer finger on the brake lever, bike in first, left foot jammed against something as far back as you can reach it. Shoulders over your front number plate (or as close to that as you can get). Get the revs up to @ 5/8 throttle (carpenter, sorry) as the 1 comes up. Once it's up start dragging the clutch - not to move you, but to find that happy place where the shit's just about to really hit the fan. This also tightens the chain and drives the nose downward. Stay there, burn it, keep looking straight ahead. See the flag in your peripheral but don't waste your concentration watching it. Keep your eyes on your path. The instant that thing moves do three things at once - throttle twists, finger rolls off the brake, clutch goes 50% into the meat of the power (you can find 50% easily before your out-lap - it always changes). Be aware of anyone not going straight, including yourself. Go deeper than your typical spot into that first turn because you'll be off speed coming from a dead stop. |
